慢性疼痛是常見、複雜和令人困擾的問題,為社會和個人帶來重大的影響。根據 Global Burden of Disease Study 2016的研究,疼痛或相關引起的疾病是該年全球殘疾及疾病負擔的主要原因。部份研究指出緊張型頭痛(Tension-Type Headache)、頸痛和腰痛等都是全球的長期痛症問題。我們在日常生活中也可能受到不同程度的慢性痛症困擾,例如部份病人無故出現腰背痛,幸好沒有影響神經系統。經過檢查及治療後,情況雖然好轉但未能完全康復。當腰部隱隱作痛超過三個月,便形成了慢性腰背痛。另外,長者亦常患上膝關節痛症,以至雙膝空虛無力,步行及活動能力下降。
